Kalyani - Mass Marriages
Many families are not financially able to get their children married which cause many young people to remain single. To alleviate this, Amma takes care of all the arrangements, financial and otherwise, in order that young couples can be married without having to pay for anything.
On Sunday, March 18th, 2007, the mass marriage celebrations took place in the Yagashala (Full Moon Yagam Hall) at the Sri Narayani Peedam. The Chief Guest was the Honourable Minister of Tourism & Culture and the Guest of Honour was the Union Minister of State for Railways, Shri. R. Velu. Shri. C. Gnanasekaran M.L.A. of Vellore constituency.
The pre wedding celebrations started the evening before with the planting of the ‘Panthakkal’ (Auspicious Tree), followed by supper provided to the bride and groom to be and their families. Early the next morning Sri Nandagopal and Smt Jothiamma blessed the 52 couples and presented them with the marriage outfits. The couples and their parents were dressed in wedding attire provided by the Peedam. The couples performed the pada puja on their parents showing gratitude for bringing them into the world and for taking care of them till this age.
Amma also provides each couple a set of the basic essentials, pots, pans, mats, pillows, umbrella and some cash in order for them to take the next step in setting up a home for themselves.
After this, Sri Sakthi Amma delivered an inspiring discourse, blessed the couples and gave the Talis or Mangal Suthras to the bride grooms for tying around the bride’s neck as a symbol of marriage. The weddings took place amidst the chanting of the Vedic mantras. The entire ceremony was well attended and a huge festive lunch was served to everyone.
“Marriage is not only a social occasion but a spiritual one too. Marriage is the most important phase in a person’s life. Through marriage one puts into practice all the good things he or she has learnt in life resulting in the creation of a very good society which gives peace in life”. Amma blesses everyone
