Arogya - A Gift of Life is a Gift of Joy
On February 16th, 2008 a function was held at the Sri Narayani Peedam to give out the gift of life to 320 children who are in dire need of life saving Heart Surgery. The guest of honour at the function was the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Dr. M. Karunanidhi.
Sri Narayani Amma is a spiritual, benevolent being who has created vast and extraordinary humanitarian opportunities in the remote and underprivileged part of India called Thirumalaikodi in the province of Tamil Nadu.
ndia is a country where universal health care is not provided by the government and a huge percent of India is living below the poverty line. The cost of medical care for a sick child is overwhelming for these people. Sri Narayani Amma has started a new initiative to provide free open heart surgeries to children in critical need, with severe heart conditions.
Each of these surgeries is life saving, with each procedure costing approximately $3000 - $4000 CAD/US. Applications are received from all over India and the surgeries are provided by the hospital facilities and location that are best suited for each child.
The patients have been selected based on their medical record and are given varied amounts depending on the severity of the case. The Vydehi Hospital & Medical College in Bangalore and the Meenakshi Hospital in Madurai have joined in this effort and extended their services and resources for the surgeries.
