First Permanent Pacemaker Implant
With the Divine blessings of our beloved AMMA the first Permanent Pacemaker Implant surgery was performed on a 70 year old patient at the Sri Narayani Hospital & Research Centre. The patient had complaints of giddiness and swelling of both feet. After all the necessary examinations and tests were done on him, he was advised that he needed to have a Permanent Pacemaker implanted to solve the problem. The surgery was performed to implant the pacemaker using the right subclavian vein access, under local anaesthesia.
Dr. Appu, MD. DM., Chief Cardiologist successfully implanted the Medtronic Sigma Single Chamber ventricular pacemaker. The patient withstood the procedure very well and made an amazing recovery. His X-rays, ECHO and serial ECGs revealed that the pacemaker is working very well.
The department of Cardiology is now functioning in a full fledged manner having done this kind of operation for the first time. Very shortly with blessings of Beloved Amma, there is a plan to inaugurate a 6 bed Coronary Care Unit which Beloved AMMA named it as the "Jim Levin Coronary Care Unit".
