Amma’s Full Moon (Pournami) Message – 19.05.2008

"Om Sarva Mangala Mangalye,

Shive Sarvatha Shaadhike,

Sharanye Triambake Gowri,

Narayani Namostute"

Rain water which pours from the sky is very pure and holy. It is very pure without dirt or debris. But though pure originally, it absorbs the character of the place on which it falls. For example the pure rain water which falls on the kalasams of a temple turns out to be holy water. When it falls on a flower of a beautiful garden it turns out to be scented water. When it falls into a ditch it turns out to be drainage water. Though the starting point is pure the water embraces the character of the place it happens to fall. Rain water which falls on the kalasams of a temple it turns out to be holy water. The water which is already pure when it falls on the kalasams of a temple it turns out to be purer and holy. When it falls on a flower it turns out to be scented water and adds more distinction to its nature. When it falls into a ditch it is not considered to be special.

Likewise, the starting point of every human being is mother. Everyone is produced from a great power and is born in this world. But everybody is not good. All of us do not have good thoughts for the same reason as the rain water turns out to be holy, scented or drainage depending on the place where it falls, man’s nature also gets altered according to the situation in which he happens to be in. If someone is in the company of good people he develops good thoughts and good deeds will emerge. In the company of evil only evil thoughts and evil deeds will emerge.

It is not important how pure the rain water is because it gets the characteristic of the place on which it falls. Likewise, every person comes from a mother but not everyone retains the pureness of their birth. The character of a person depends on the situation in which one is brought up. The situations are our creation. If one joins the company of good people his life will be like the rain water which falls on the temple and turns out to be pure and holy. The opposite will happen when one joins the company of evil people.

Everyone has a chance of creating a good atmosphere. For that we go to the temples, get to know all the good virtues, conduct pujas, and listen to pious recitals at home, chant slokas and mantras. The sufferings of everyone are the result of his Karma. His acts are caused by his thoughts. So, if one’s thoughts are good his deeds also will be good. The route cause of one’s deed is the thought he develops within himself.

When we go to a good place people will always be talking about good things. We could learn and get to know about the good things we can do which we did not know before. So, whatever we learn we do.

When we look at a picture of a divine being we feel peace and develop patience which may last for a while. If you look at the picture of a devil only fear will haunt you. Good qualities can be acquired by joining the company of good people; learning and doing good things. In present days no one has to go in search of evil because it comes on its own. However, one has to go in search of goodness.

We must create good situations through prayers at home every morning; the prayer may be short or long; in any language. Go to temple once in a week with the family; read good books; they are many; and discuss the contents with the family and things like that.

To be born as a human being is unique and wonderful because only human beings can think of good things and do good deeds. Even if we are not in search of evil it comes to us; but we have to go in search of good. Learn good things and do good deeds.

On this auspicious day Amma blesses that all living beings in all the worlds be happy and comfortable.
