Everyone has heard or knows what about previous birth (Poorva Jenma). Just like the present birth everyone had a previous birth too. In this present birth, you would reap the consequences of your deeds committed in your previous birth whether they were good or bad. Depending on the deeds of your previous birth, you will receive the rewards in this birth. If you did a lot of good deeds and charitable work in your previous birth, you will receive a good life with peace and happiness. If you committed some sin whether intentionally or unintentionally, you will face problems and suffering. This is called Poorva Jenma Karma. Karma is the sum of deeds done in the previous birth.

Everyone knows about Karma. However there is another thing called Poorva Jenma Vasana which means tendencies from the previous birth. In the present birth you will have the same kind of tendencies as you had in your previous birth. Not everybody wants to lead an unhealthy or bad life. Most people want to live a pious life. Does this happen for everyone? No. Most people want to have only good thoughts. Does this happen? No, some bad thoughts always interfere. Sudden anger and arrogant nature is prevalent. This is because of Poorva Jenma Vasana.

Suppose you have bad thoughts and indulge in bad habits in the previous birth the same will follow in this birth too as Vasana. Take for example a father and mother who has a child but do not have a lot of faith in God; but their child has a lot more faith and devotion. Normally only the parents will teach the child about God and faith. Here, the parents have little faith but the child has a lot. How is possible that the child is born with faith? That is because of the child's Poorva Jenma Vasana. Whatever happens in a man's life is not created by someone else but by himself only.

Whatever happens in this birth is the result of your deeds in your previous birth. Your deeds will give you the rewards accordingly. Your suffering in this birth is because of your deeds of your previous birth. If you want peace and happiness tomorrow, you have to do good deeds and a lot of charitable work in your present life. Whatever you have received today came from yesterday's deeds. Whatever you are going to receive tomorrow will come from your deeds of today.

Tomorrow's life depends on today's deeds. If the future is to be happy one has to do good deeds in this birth. To do good deeds one must have good intentions, good character and tendencies. Two things will accompany a person through out. 1. One's deeds the results of which will follow in the next birth. 2. One's characteristics the nature of which will follow in the next birth too. A person's deeds whether good or bad starts from his mind. The mind makes a person either good or bad. Hence, the thoughts have to be pure then the deeds also will be good.

If the mind is not pure the deeds also will bear the same characteristics which will induce one to commit sin and sufferings will follow as a result. Another thing is you have to nourish good intentions. Do not be present in bad surroundings to do evil to others or to physically harm others. Frequent yourself in good surroundings. Have good thoughts. You can develop good thoughts through the grace of Amma. If there are good thoughts there will be good deeds and good deeds will bring good results and remove all sufferings.

How to get the grace of Amma? That is very easy; once in a week you can go to the temple. You can chant Amma's name in your puja room daily for ten minutes. Chant "Om Namo Narayani, Om Namo Narayani, Om Namo Narayani; which means "I surrender to you". If you surrender completely, the responsibility of your protection is taken over by Amma. There is no need to do penance for this. Om Namo Narayani is an easy chant. One can use any name of God he likes. All are the same. Keep on chanting the same mantra all the time.

If you chant within you, the sound of the chanting will convert your heart into the temple of Amma, where Amma is pleased to dwell. Your heart will become the most fitting seat for Amma. Hence, both good deeds and good thoughts are important. If you surrender yourself to Amma, by Amma's grace you will do good deeds and think good thoughts. Chant Om Namo Narayani with devotion and it will give you what you need. All evil will vanish and goodness will flourish.
