Sri Sakthi Amma

Sri Sakthi Amma was born on the third of January, 1976, to Shri. Nanda Gopal and Smt. Jyothiamma. It was evident from birth that this baby was Divine and very special. A distinct, Divine ray of light (Namam) on the baby’s forehead was vividly visible, along with symbols of Chakra (wheel) and Shanka (conch) on either side of the chest.

Through this, the Divine connection was established, and people recognized the child as very special. From a very early age, the child began showing great interest in spiritual life, participated blissfully in pujas (religious ceremonies), and insisted on visiting places of worship on a daily basis. On May 8th, 1992, Sri Sakthi Amma proclaimed the avatar of Goddess Sri Narayani with the purpose of helping humanity on the spiritual path and uplifting the lives of those in need. Extraordinary Siddhis (miraculous powers) were demonstrated to make the message clear.

Establishing Sri Narayani Peedam

In 1992, Sri Sakthi Amma left the family home and moved to Thirumalaikodi to establish Sri Narayani Peedam. Amma lived in a small house and had a daily spiritual practice of steadfast pooja and meditation, along with an extremely focused vision. The intention was to lead humanity on the spiritual path – whatever the person’s religion may be – and to uplift the vulnerable through a wide range of social welfare programs.

Thirumalaikodi:  the Tamil word malai means ‘hill’, while kodi means ‘end’, as it literally lies at the end of the hill range. Many holy hills converge to make up this region, including the hills of Ratnagiri, Vallimalai, Parvatha Malai and Kailasha Giri, to name a few.

This area is considered sacred because of the many centuries of penance and prayer to Goddess Narayani, by the sages who inhabited the area. In those early days of establishing Sri Narayani Peedam, Thirumalaikodi had no running water, no street lighting or communication systems, and the common mode of transport was bullock cart or bicycle. There was a small dirt road which led to the town of Vellore, eight kilometres away. No one could have imagined what was soon to take place in this humble, rural village.

"Temples are focal points for attaining peace of mind and for receiving Divine grace. These are essential qualities in one’s life."

-Sri Sakthi Amma

Temples of Narayani Peedam

Sri Narayani Peedam is the headquarters of all of Sri Sakthi Amma’s projects, be it spiritual activities or seva (selfless service). At Peedam, poojas (rituals) are performed every single day, in accordance with Vedic scriptures. The premises of Sri Narayani Peedam include the Sri Narayani Temple, Swayambu Temple (Peedam’s first temple), Putthu (Sacred Anthill), Shanti Mandapam (Hall of Peace), Yaga Sala (Full Moon Hall), Gho Sala (Home for Cows), as well as its administrative offices.

The word ‘Peedam’ in Tamil (or Peetha in Sanskrit) means ‘seat’, ‘throne’ or ‘place of worship’. Sri Narayani Peedam refers to ‘the seat’ of Goddess Narayani. It is from this seat in this blessed land, with its history of great sages, that the entire universe is taken care of.

The Swayambu Temple is the first temple established at Sri Narayani Peedam. In 1992, Amma declared that a swayambu (a sacred symbol that manifests of its own accord) would appear from the ground at 6pm on 11 September.

When Amma left home at 16 years of age, Amma moved into a house that stood by this very putthu and offered pooja daily.

A putthu is considered nature’s way of confirming that the surroundings are sacred, affirming that the Divine force is present.

In 2007, Sri Sakthi Amma consecrated the Sripuram Golden Temple, which has become a spiritual oasis for people of all religions. ‘Sri’ refers to the Goddess Lakshmi, and ‘puram’ means ‘abode.’ Sripuram is the abode of the Goddess Lakshmi, the Goddess of Prosperity.

In the Sanskrit language, the word mantra can be broken down as follows:

‘Man’ for ‘soul’ and ‘tra’ means ‘through.’ Therefore, the word ‘mantra’ means ‘through the soul.’ The source of the universe is the Divine, and the source of the Divine is mantra. Explore how mantras are the source of Divine energy.

Bhajans are devotional songs that express love, reverence, and praise for the Divine, and are a significant part of the Hindu tradition. Bhajans abet devotion and surrender, and aid in facilitating a joyful connection with the Divine, ultimately bringing peace of mind and removing worry and stress.
