Installation of Lord Danvantri
On the evening of April 5th 2005, amidst heavy rains and cloudy skies which is very unusual weather for this time of the year, the Lord Danvantri statue was installed on the Sri Narayani Hospital & Research Centre grounds. The statue is beautifully carved out of a single stone and stands 22 feet tall.
Lord Danvantri is an incarnation of Lord Mahavishnu (the God of the Three Worlds). Dhanvantri is the Sanskrit word for "The Wise and Compassionate Essence of Healing". He is the protector and healer of all the Devas. In one hand he holds the herbs; the other hand holds a pot with Amrith (nectar) which protects devotees from all kinds of diseases. The third has palm leaves, which serve as a base for writing the medicinal formulations and the fourth is held in the blessing posture. He is the father of the Indian science of medicine and Ayurveda is attributed to him.
