Onam Festival at the Sripuram

On Wednesday August 29th, 2012 was the Onam Festival at the Sripuram. With the Divine Blessings of Sri Sakthi Amma it was celebrated with a week of Homams and cultural programs.

Onam is a festival that is celebrated in Kerala for over a period of 10 days during the month of Chingam (between August and September). It signifies the homecoming of Emperor Mahabali. The festival pays tribute to the Vamana form of Lord Vishnu. The festival is celebrated with prayers, flower rangolis, special foods, snake boat races, etc. Ten days prior to Onam, most people start the day with an early morning bath, they do their prayers and start creating floral decorations in front of their homes.
