On 14 th January Temple priest performed Surya (Sun God) Homam as part of the Pongal and Sankranti Program. Our beloved Sri Narayani (Shakti) Amma’s mother participated in the Homam.

Sankranti is festival day dedicated to Lord Surya (Sun). It marks the end of the winter cycle and the start of warmer longer days in India. Pongal is celebrated as a Thanksgiving Ceremony for the year’s harvest. It happens around the same time as Sankranti which is Mid-January.
