Sri Narayani Amma’s 'Proclamation Day' 14th Anniversary
Goddess Narayani’s 14th anniversary was celebrated on Monday May 8th, 2006. This day also marked the 14th anniversary of the Sri Narayani Peedam. This day was celebrated with grandeur, reverence and devotion.
The celebration started at 6.15 a.m., Amma was welcomed into the Shanthi Mandapam with the Poornakumbam and chanting by the priests. Amma performed Ganapathi puja and sat down for the Pada Puja. The Pada Puja was performed by a family from Toronto, Canada. After the Pada Puja, Amma was garlanded and crowned by the foreign devotees.
At around 7.30 a.m. Amma performed Thulasi Puja and Puthu Koil. This was followed by Kalasa Yagam by Amma before Amma started out to meet the thousands of devotees including Vaishnavi, the temple elephant and the horses Suryan and Chandran who were waiting at the Sri Narayani Vidyalaya School to greet Amma.
On arrival at the Venue, Amma placed the Kalasam on Jothiamma’s head and led the procession back to the Temple. Each devotee followed carrying a Paneer Kudam (Pot of milk) on their heads, signifying that they are surrendering everything especially their egos.
On arrival at the Swayambhu Temple, Amma performed a Puja with the Paneer Kalasam and sprinkled the holy water on all the devotees. The devotees offered their Paneer Kalasams at the Swayambhu Temple and received the blessings of Sri Narayani Amma.
The offering of milk, the highest form of purity, is like cleansing the mind and body. Entering the Swayambhu Temple, offering the milk and coming out, is like going into the Divine Chamber and coming out with bad karmas reduced. 10,008 pots were offered during the course of the day. Devotees lined up and waited patiently for their turn.
After this, Amma went to the Anna Dhanam seva hall, where Amma tasted the food and requested that the food be served to all the devotees present. A little later, Amma performed the Gho Puja followed by all the daily Narayani Pujas. Amma visited the Sri Narayani Hospital and Research Centre and all members of staff were invited to receive Theertham and blessings from Amma.
