
Sri Narayani College of Nursing - Lamp Lighting Ceremony
Since it's inception in November 2006, the Sri Narayani College of Nursing has trained many young students to become qualified B.Sc. Nurses. On Monday January 26th, 2009 the third group of students took the Pledge of Florence Nightingale and were initiated into the B.Sc. Nursing program.
The Lamp Lighting ceremony was held at the Sri Narayani Vidyalaya School with the Chief Guests being Ms. Peggy Dulany, Philanthropist and Dr. Alicia Gil del Real, Psychologist from the U.S.A. Also seated on stage were Mr. N. Balaji, Director of the Sri Narayani Hospital & Research Centre and Mrs. Lalitha Purushothaman, Principal of the Sri Narayani College of Nursing.
Next was a speech on "What Nurses Should Be" given by Ms. Peggy Dulany from N.Y., U.S.A. This was followed by another speech by Dr. Alicia Gil del Real on the "Graduation of Nurses" where she described the role of nurses and what nurses do and said that nurses are there to heal and serve with love.
Ms. Punita, a student from an under-privileged family expressed her sincere thanks to Beloved Sri Sakthi Amma for providing the opportunity and a seat in this class for her to become a nurse. She promised to work hard and to always be faithful to Amma for this great opportunity.
Florence Nightingale Pledge
"I solemnly pledge myself before God and in the presence of this assembly, to pass my life in purity and to practice my profession faithfully. I will abstain from whatever is deleterious and mischievous, and will not take or knowingly administer any harmful drug. I will do all in my power to maintain and elevate the standard of my profession, and will hold in confidence all personal matters committed to my keeping and all family affairs coming to my knowledge in the practice of my calling. With loyalty will I endeavor to aid the physician in his work, and devote myself to the welfare of those committed to my care".
