Sri Narayani Hospital Dental Surgery – Case Report

A 32 year old man from a rural village near Thirumalaikodi visited the Sri Narayani Hospital & Research Centre on March 6th 2006, complaining of proclination of upper and lower teeth. Prior to his visit to the hospital, he was under fixed orthodontic treatment by a Dental Practitioner, but because of the immense pain he was undergoing, the treatment was stopped and the appliances were removed.

At this stage he came to our hospital for further consultation and treatment. An oral examination was done on the patient with a lateral cephalogram and OPG. An impression was made and mock surgery was done in the cast. After further analysis, we came to conclusion that 60% of the proclination can be reduced by doing orthognathic surgery.

The patient was treated with antibiotics for 3 days, after which he was discharged. He was advised to return to the hospital for review once a week for two months for scaling after which the wiring will be removed.
