Sri Sahasra Chandi Yagam - Day 1

On Friday August 12th, 2011 marked the first day of the Sri Sahasra Chandi Yagam which was held in the Yagashala at the Sri Narayani Peedam. The day started with the Kalasa Sthapana, followed by Gho Puja, Gaja Puja, Abhishekam and the Sri Sahasra Chandi Yagam.

The Sahasra Chandi Yagam is an offering to Mother Goddess and is as old as the Vedas. The Devi Mahatmiyam has 700 stanzas and 3 sections. The first is named after Mahakali, the second is named after Mahalakshmi and the third is named after Maha Saraswathi. Devi Mahatme also includes the Devas expressing their gratitude to the Divine Mother for having supppressed the asuras (demons/evil forces). "Narayani namosthuthae" is the core and essence of this prayer.
