Tamil New Years Day

"Puthandu Vazthukal" or Happy New Year

On this auspicious Tamil New Year's Day, Amma wishes all a Happy New Year and sends love and blessings to everyone.

The Tamil New Year is believed to be the day when the world was created. Tamils, celebrate this day with an early morning oil bath and special prayers and offerings to God. Narayani puja was also performed by our Beloved Amma at the Shanthi Mandapam.

Traditionally, two types of foods are served on this day, a bitter dish and a sweet dish. The bitter dish (neem salad) is eaten before the sweet dish. This signifies that one has overcome the bitterness of life and is ready to move forward to the better things ahead.
